Steven Thompson Corneliussen was born July 12, 1918, to Frederick Christopher and Sylvia Thompson Corneliussen. He died July 19, 2017, and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

Capt. Corneliussen served in World War II with the U.S. Navy where he served as a scout-observation pilot aboard the seaplane-equipped cruiser USS Detroit (CL-8) and as a fighter pilot aboard the aircraft carrier USS Manila Bay (CVE-61) in action against Japanese forces in the Pacific. After the war, he served as a fighter pilot and fighter squadron commander aboard the carriers USS Midway (CV-41) and USS Philippine Sea (CV-47). His tours of duty during his career included service as operations officer, USS Valley Forge (CV-45), and with headquarters staff, U.S. European Command, then based in Paris, France. He retired from active duty in 1965, relinquishing command of Navy air transport squadron VR-22 in Norfolk.
