HuberT I. Egenes

Hubert Iver Egenes was born June 10, 1918, to Iver Andrew and Anna Marie Swenson Egenes. He was killed in action Mar. 28, 1944, and is buried in Story City Cemetery, Story City, IA.
​

Lt. Col. Egenes served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 362 Squadron. He was awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart.

Hand painted sign that the men of the 362nd fighter squadron sent to Hubert’s parents after his death. Hubert was the squadron commander. Al Lichter was his wing man. Hubert’s parents gave this sign to Al when he and his wife Maxine, and daughter Marty visited them in Story City years later. It is now in Marty’s possession.
