Richard Newell Nelson was born Dec. 1, 1919 to Thorwald Nelson and Ellen Johnson Nelson. He died Oct. 4, 1944 and is buried in Story City Municipal Cemetery, Story City, IA.

Sgt. Nelson served in World War II with the U.S. Army Infantry Co. G, 175th Infantry Regiment and was MIA/KIA in Germany.
