Alvan S. Ose
Alvan Stanley Ose was born Dec. 2, 1918, to John and Agnes Ose. He died Dec. 15, 1944, and is memorialized in the Manila American Cemetery in Taguig City, Philippines, as well as the Story City Cemetery.
1st Lt. Ose served in World War II with the 16th Bomb Squadron, 27th Bomber Group, Light and was KIA and awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. It is believed due to Japanese manifest records, the timeline and his location in the Philippines when the Japanese invaded, that he most likely was a participant in the Bataan Death March. On December 15, 1944, Alvan was on board a Japanese "hell ship," the Oryoku Maru, an unmarked prisoner transport ship, being moved from Manila when it was bombed and sunk in Subic Bay, Luzon, Philippine Islands. |
