Sheldall School
Built in 1859, the Sheldall School was the first public school in Scott Township, Hamilton County. As the only public building in the area, the school was used for public meetings, spelling bees, musical programs, debates, and church services. After serving as a school for twenty-six years it was used by the Riverside Band, as a dwelling, and a museum.
In 1990, the Story City Historical Society moved the school to its present site in Story City. Structural renovations were made and the pioneer school was furnished with desks and memorabilia from the early 1900s. One of its unique features in the collection of authentic framed portraits of the 30 teachers who served the school from 1859 through 1885.
