Story City goes to War
On December 7, 1941, the United States would be drawn into the Second World War after the bombing of Pearl Harbor pushed Americans to the brink and the United States declared war on Japan. Over the course of the United States' involvement in the war, 16 million American men and women served. Of those 16 million, over 200,000 were from Iowa, and approximately 400 men and women from the Story City area served. Through this exhibit we will honor those from our community who served and show what life was like on the home front in Story City during World War II.
Thank You
We'd like to thank everyone who assisted us with this project. To Jonathan Cooney who spent many hours researching our 400 veterans in the Story City Herald Newspaper database. Cheri Sletten who searched for all of the Iowa Bonus File Applications for our veterans. Cindy Spurlock who assisted with finding the draft registration cards for our veterans. A special thank you to Hannah Haack, our summer intern, for all her assistance in research and webpage creation. And thank you to everyone who shared photos and information about our veterans. We appreciate all of you who assisted with this project, it would not have been completed without your help.
